The 1848 Monster Meeting on Sliabh na mBan: A Talk by Robert Duggan
In 1848 a Monster meeting, led by the Young Irelanders, took place on Sliabh na mBan to protest about the export of food during the famine. On that historic day 50,000 people made the climb to show their revulsion at the devastation caused by the Famine, having witnessed the harvest being exported while one million Irish people died from starvation.
Robert Duggan will give a talk on those events and outline plans to hold a commemorative event on July 16 to celebrate the 175th anniversary.
All events in the library are free of charge but booking is essential as spaces are limited.
To book contact: 051 640591 or carricklibrary@tipperarycoco.ie or speak to a member of the library staff.
