Gina & The Champions to perform 50th birthday concert in Waterford's Theatre Royal

Gina and The Champions to close Comeraghs Wild Festival on a high note

Gina, the lead singer of Gina and The Champions

Gina & The Champions, which have a strong fan base in county Tipperary, bring their 50th Anniversary Tour to the Theatre Royal in Waterford City on Sunday, October 29 at 8pm.

The concert follows a sold out gig in Dungarvan's Town Hall Theatre in July as part of the Comeraghs Wild Festival and two sold out concerts in Brú Boru in Cashel.

It promises to be a night of hits, memories and nostalgia which will include a special tribute the late Dale Haze.

Special guest performer will be Eurovision star Marc Roberts.

Gina and the band will perform all their old hits like ‘The Greatest Lover’, ‘Do You Wanna Do It’, ‘Real Good Feeling’ and many more old favourites as well as their new release, ‘From Here To The Moon and Back’.

Tickets for the show cost €28.50 and are available at www.theatreroyal.ie

Gina, Dale Haze and The Champions were formed in 1973 and Gina’s first ever gig with The Champions was in the Rainbow Ballroom in Kilmacthomas.

The Cork-based band took the dancing scene by storm in the late 1970s and early 80s with 12 chart hit singles and several best-selling albums. The band quickly became Ireland’s top attraction with record breaking attendances at dances and concerts.

The band received countless awards and accolades over the years.

A monumental year was 1979 with the release of one of their biggest hits ‘The Greatest Lover’ and two major awards, Gina was voted Irelands Number 1 Pop Singer and the band were voted Ireland's Top band, a feat they repeated many times over the following years.

Fifty years on the original band members, Gina, Pat, Mossey, Eddie and Tony still perform together at sell out shows. Sadly, singer Dale Haze passed away suddenly in 2020 but his fellow band members continue to remember him in a special way on stage at all their shows.

“We’ve performed to audiences all over the world but there is nothing like an Irish audience and our Waterford, Tipperary and Cork fans in particular really know how to enjoy a night out,” said Gina.

“This 50th Anniversary tour is very special to us and we have put everything into making it special for our fans. We’re really looking forward to performing in the Theatre Royal. The acoustics are amazing and the fantastic seating ensures it will be an intimate,,” Gina added.

To celebrate their 50th anniversary, Gina & The Champions have just released a Special Edition CD collection called ’50 Songs for 50 Years’ featuring all the hits of the last 50 years.
