The next Ormond Historical Society field trip takes place on Mon. 19 August.
The venue on this occasion is Nenagh town centre and is the Society's contribution to National Heritage Week.
In keeping with the theme of Heritage Week this year – Connections, Routes and Networks - they will explore the route of Nenagh’s first street which ran from the castle to the Franciscan Abbey, now incorporated into O'Rahilly St Pearse St. and Abbey St.
Join them as they explore the history and events of bygone days as they traverse the path travelled by the town’s earliest citizens. Their exploration will commence at 7.00 pm in O’Rahilly St. Carpark, site of the original entrance to the castle complex.
From there they will follow the line of the street along Abbey St. as we recall some former residents and happenings on our way to the ruins of the Franciscan Friary, final resting place of many Nenagh families. Guide for the evening will be OHS member John Flannery.
This event is open to all and is free of charge. Please note the earlier than usual start time of 7.00 pm sharp. Looking forward to having as many as possible join with us as we look again at our fascinating and sometimes turbulent history.
