Knockavilla play tells amazing story of Annacarty man Lar Slattery

This show about Larry Slattery is not to be missed.

“Heroes and Ghosts – The Life and Times of Larry Slattery” is a one man play which tells the fascinating story of Larry Slattery, born the son of the school master, Michael Slattery of Annacarty NS in 1913.

The play was recently performed at The Horse and Jockey Hotel to great acclaim for two sold out performances. As a teenager Larry was a first hand witness of the political turmoil of 1919 to 1923 in the Annacarty / Donohill area.

In later life he was an RAF airman, a translator at Nuremberg, and he played in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The play is performed by Christy Clancy, retired principal of Littleton N.S. where Larry Slattery’s father subsequently taught, from 1927 to 1945.

This one hour play will be performed in Knockavilla hall on Sunday March 16th at 7.30 Tickets €10. Booking please at Annacarty Tearooms 062 71996 (open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm) or Heffernan’s shop, Dundrum 062 71114.
