Tipperary communities rally around cancer support through coffee mornings

Coffee mornings in Tipperary Town and Bansha raise funds for local cancer support services

Tipperary communities rally around cancer support through coffee mornings

Two local groups in County Tipperary are hosting coffee mornings this week to raise funds for agencies supporting individuals diagnosed with cancer.

The first event will take place on Friday, September 19, at the CJ Kickham Band Hall on Davis Street in Tipperary town. Running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the morning will feature a raffle with prizes including an exercise bike, hampers, and vouchers, with the draw scheduled close to 2 p.m.

In a bid to engage attendees further, the organisers are inviting guests to spend time on one of two exercise bikes in the lobby to contribute to the fundraising effort. Local singer Anthony O’Connor will perform on the ground floor, adding a musical element to the gathering.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the South Tipperary Hospice Movement. Residents wishing to contribute baked goods are encouraged to drop them off at the hall on Thursday evening until 8:30 p.m. or on Friday morning.

A second coffee morning is scheduled for Sunday, September 21, at Templeneiry Church in Bansha, a historic venue now repurposed as a community space. The event, running from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m, has become an annual fixture, attracting a steady stream of local supporters.

Funds raised at this gathering will be distributed among Cluain Aran Nursing Home in Tipperary town, which maintains two palliative care beds, the Circle of Friends Cancer Support Centre in Knockanrawley, and the South Tipperary Hospice Movement in Clonmel. A raffle will also take place, and attendees are advised to bring cash.

These events underscore the continued commitment of local communities in Tipperary to supporting cancer care and palliative services. Through volunteer-led initiatives such as these coffee mornings, small towns are able to mobilise resources and foster a sense of solidarity for those navigating life with a cancer diagnosis.
