Lorrha
A guided walking tour of Monastic Lorrha will take place next month in memory of Zara Harding Horan, raising funds for heart research and genetic testing.
The event, led by historian James Heenan, will begin at 2pm on Sunday, 9 November, meeting at the SCÉAL shop (E45 A097) in Lorrha. All donations are welcome.
The fundraiser was announced by Séamus Pádraig Ó hÉanáin, who said he was privileged to give the tour in Zara’s memory. Zara, who was deeply loved by her parents Alison and Declan, her family and friends, passed away in 2020 at the age of just 20 from Loeys-Dietz syndrome, a rare connective tissue disorder.

Despite her short life, Zara made a lasting impression on all who knew her. A talented and enthusiastic rugby player, she played for Shannon RFC and previously for Birr Rugby Club, earning the admiration of teammates and coaches alike.
“Zara packed a lot into her short life and was a huge rugby fan,” Mr Ó hÉanáin wrote in his announcement. “It’s an honour to remember her through this community event.”
The tour will explore the historic monastic sites of Lorrha, offering visitors insight into the area’s rich ecclesiastical heritage while raising funds for an important cause.
The event is being supported by Lorrha Tidy Towns and the Lorrha Development Association.
