Former Bank of Ireland employee to the fore in Lions Club
Liam will head up the organisation of which there are 112 clubs throughout the country with over 2500 members.
Liam, a retired employee of Bank of Ireland, formally accepted the chain of office at a special function which was held in the Anner Hotel Thurles and was attended by a large number of Lions members from far and wide.
Originally from Mitchelstown, Co. Cork Liam has been a prominent member of Thurles Lions Club since 1987 and for the past 4 years had responsibility for promoting the “Lions Eye Health Programme” throughout the entire Country.
Speaking after his appointment as District Governor in the Anner Hotel this week, Liam said the road ahead will be difficult due to the financial constraints in which our country and our people now find its self to day.
“The result of this is that there will be numerous requests on us for help and our resources will be stretched to its limits but I believe that the Lions Clubs of Ireland will rise to this new and daunting challenge,” he said.
Liam will have the distinction of holding the role of District Governor for one year. During that period of time he will visit all of the Irish Lions Clubs and sit on the international council and other bodies.
He recently returned from the Lions Club’s International Convention in Hamburg in Germany.
This new role is one which Liam will pursue with much energy and he has been wished well by all members of the Thurles Lions Club and indeed members of the District where he will serve.
Liam is very well known locally and The Tipperary Star extends it’s congratulations to him also and wishes him well in his tenure as District Governor.
