Viewers of Dancing with the Stars in Tipperary have reacted strongly online after the elimination of Jordan Dargan in the semi-final, with many claiming the show has become 'a popularity contest rather than a dancing competition'.

The dancer, who has family links to County Tipperary, left the show after a dramatic dance-off despite receiving strong scores from the judges earlier in the night.

Many viewers argued that the public vote plays too big a role in deciding who stays in the competition.

“It’s a popularity contest, not a dancing contest… Paudie was by far the weakest from week one, yet here we are,” explained one viewer.

Another person agreed, saying the competition often rewards popularity rather than dance ability.

“Having Paudie in the competition is getting viewers and ratings high… to me it seems like a popularity competition.”

Some viewers even suggested that the format should change.

“The public vote should be eliminated… it should be the judges’ decision as to who goes through.”

Several fans believed the judges made the wrong call in the final dance-off.

One person commented: “He should have won the dance off.”

Another added that the “judges made the wrong choice. He was better than the one they kept in.”

A large number of comments praised Dargan’s improvement throughout the series.

“He’s a phenomenal dancer from never dancing before December,” said one person.

"He was amazing every night and should be in the final.”

While many defended Dargan, others pointed out that the rules of the show combine judges’ scores with the public vote.

One commenter noted that “the judges’ score is only part of the final score with the public having the opportunity to vote.”

With the semi-final now complete, attention turns to the upcoming grand final, where the remaining celebrities will compete for the Glitterball trophy on Sunday, March 15.
