The sun shone in all its magnificent glory and the crowds came in great numbers to the Tipperary Vintage Rally on Sunday, June 18.
With all funding going to the South Tipperary Hospice Movement, the organisers can feel well pleased with yet another magnificent event.
There were attractions for the young and the not so young, with vintage cars, tractors and bikes and displays of military vehicles and equipment.
Throughout the large enclosure at the rear of Supermacs, every available place was taken by a vehicle, a display or a stand.
The very popular dog show drew a large number of entries and commentary throughout was provided by committee chairperson Jack Leonard.
When there was a break in commentary and public address information, DJ Francis (Hogan) entertained the crowd with a varied selection of music including some from Aslan and the late Christy Dignam.
The children were not forgotten either as the amusements and rides kept them entertained and of course looking for one last spin!
As I walked around the enclosure I was struck by the wonderful friendly atmosphere as people stopped to greet each other and to meet up with friends and acquaintances. I heard so many people say “this is a great event” and “such a great cause”.
Both statements are really true and great credit must go to the committee and helpers of Tipperary Vintage Rally who are never found wanting in their support for the Hospice Movement and indeed for any charitable cause.
The great thing about this committee is that they never say no, even when the elements go against them and they have to postpone as happened at Easter, they immediately set about organising to reschedule, as they did for Sunday last.
It certainly was so worth the effort as they were rewarded with a bumper crowd and the elements also obliged. Well done once again to all concerned and we look forward to hearing the final total raised from the day.
