WATCH: 'It looks like I topped the poll in Thurles,' claims candidate Jim Ryan

Tipperary North candidate Jim Ryan spoke this afternoon from the Count Centre in Thurles

Independent candidate Jim Ryan is polling well in Thurles and has paid tribute to all those who supported him along the campaign.

He threw his hat in the ring once it was clear that Thurles native Jackie Cahill (Fianna Fáil) wasn't running this time because of health reasons.

Jim stepped into the vacuum and has polled well however he concedes that a seat this time may be just out of reach.
