WATCH: First time in a decade that a Tipperary Fine Gael candidate will be elected as a TD

After 15 years as a Councillor, Michael Murphy is ready to step up "to senior hurling" as he is on the verge of being elected as a TD to represent the people of Tipperary South. 

The Fine Gael candidate will be the first since 2011 from the party to take up the role and is in pole position over the coming hours to take the second seat after Mattie McGrath claimed the first this morning. 

Michael Murphy told Stephen Gleeson just now in Thurles that it is a proud day for all around him and he says he will do everything he can to make a success of his term once his election is confirmed...
