Ellen O’Brien celebrated her 102nd birthday this week.
Ellen was born in Toor, Newport, in the parish of Ballinahinch on June 17, 1923.

Ellen was the second of three daughters born to Andrew and Annie O’Brien.
She attended Toor National School and later emigrated to America where she trained and worked as a nurse.

In 1989 Ellen retired and returned to Ireland, first spending eight years in the south of Tipperary in Mullinahone.
Then in 1997 she moved to Nenagh, living in the Ormond Court estate.

She has been living at Sue Ryder House in Nenagh since 2011, and this week, celebrations were held to mark her remarkable 102nd birthday.
