Tipperary bluegrass band return for live performance at Grand Ole Opry, Tennessee

Pictured above is Drangan man Gavin Strappe who will return to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee, with the band Jigjam for a performance on Wednesday, April 3.

The highly-rated bluegrass band made their debut at the venue just over a year ago and say it’s an honour to be asked back to perform on country music’s biggest stage. The show will wrap up their spring tour in the United States.

Son of Susan and Tom Strappe, Gavin has been a member of Jigjam for the last eight years. The band went down a storm when they performed at the world-famous home of country music last year.

The committee of Drangan Tidy Towns thank you all most sincerely for your support at our recent table quiz which was a huge success. To all who participated, donated the raffle prizes, monetary donations and helped in any way, to Michael Barry and staff at the Archway, to quiz master John Fitzgerald and score keeper Anne Buckley a big thanks.
It was wonderful to see such community support which going forward will help our initiatives to improve and maintain our lovely village.
Volunteers are always needed and are most welcome. Again, thanks to all.

CLONEEN SQUASH CLUB
Squash blitzes continue on Tuesdays at 7.30 pm and Thursdays at 7 pm.
Court can be reserved (when requested) for beginner lessons on Thursdays from 6pm to 7pm. Anyone who has never played squash and would like to try it out is welcome at this time also but please let us know in advance.

DRANGAN/CLONEEN ACTIVE RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION
Following the AGM of the Drangan/Cloneen Active Retirement Association, the following are the officers for 2024:
Chairman John Duggan, Secretary Kathleen Simpson, Joint Treasurers Betty Egan and Bridget Cuddihy, Public Relations Officer Moira O’Halloran.
Annual membership is €15 and should be paid to either of the joint treasurers.
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday April 10 in Drangan Community Centre at 3 pm. Please note change of date to Wednesday April 10.
We welcome suggestions for our Summer Outing at the end of May.
