Businesses urged to embrace nature at biodiversity event in Tipperary

Local businesses across Tipperary are invited to a special event on Wednesday, May 21st, aimed at highlighting the benefits of Biodiversity for Business.

Organised by the Tipperary Green Business Network in collaboration with Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), the event will take place at the University’s Thurles campus from 2pm to 4.30pm as part of National Biodiversity Week.

Titled Business for Biodiversity in Tipperary, the afternoon gathering will bring together business owners, farmers, tourism operators, and sustainability-minded entrepreneurs to explore how protecting and restoring nature can directly benefit their operations.

Organisers say the event will offer both inspiration and practical advice on making businesses more nature-positive.

Opening remarks will be delivered by Noel Heffernan, Chairperson of the Tipperary Green Business Network. He will be followed by Kevin Healion of TUS, who will outline the university’s own biodiversity initiatives on campus.

Ann Marie Fleming, Biodiversity Officer with Tipperary County Council, will speak about the local authority’s support and guidance for biodiversity-related efforts. Derry O’Donnell will present an introduction to Biomimicry, and discuss how nature-inspired innovation is helping businesses design more sustainable products and services.

The highlight of the event will conclude with a guided walk of the campus grounds, led by well-known biodiversity advocate Sean O’ Farrell of Cloncannon Biofarm. Sean will share practical tips on how businesses can improve their spaces for pollinators and native wildlife.

Attendees can expect to learn how investing in biodiversity and protecting and restoring nature can directly benefit their business. The event will also explore the growing opportunities for businesses to access grants and sustainability incentives through biodiversity and other schemes.
