The final event in the Cahir Social and Historical Society's ‘Culture at the Castle’ series ended with a memorable lecture that took place in the Great Hall of Cahir Castle last Friday, July 18.

The lecture was entitled ‘Seven Days In May - the 1599 Siege of Cahir Castle’ was delivered by two sons of Cahir, Bob Boles and Paul Buckley.

In the course of their research, Bob and Paul have uncovered fresh information on this seminal chapter in the history of Cahir Castle in what was a fascinating lecture on the 1599 Siege of Cahir Castle by Robert Devereaux, the Earl of Essex.

The lecture was a raging success with a packed house. The audience was spellbound by Bob Boles’ superbly informative description of the siege of 1599. Using A.I. to generate images based on relevant historical documents, Bob has set the bar high for future work in this area! Their detailed research gave this seminal event in the town's history the attention it deserves.

The AI generated images of Cahir castle were something to behold. Special thanks to Paul Buckley for his research contribution. It was an excellent collaboration from both Paul and Bob.

Our wonderful Cahir Castle is the gift that keeps on giving! Our thanks go to Tipperary County Council for their support of our ‘Culture at the Castle’ through the Festivals and Events Grant Scheme.  As always we are also deeply grateful to the OPW and the staff of Cahir Castle in particular for allowing us to use the Great Hall at their busiest time of year.
