More than 100 walkers took part in Carrick-on-Suir Lions Club's Suir Blueway 50/50 sponsored charity walk last week in aid of Childhood Cancer Ireland and the Clonmel based Suir Dragon Paddlers.

They were blessed with a beautiful sunny morning on Sunday, September 3 for the hike on the Blueway from Kilsheelan t0 Carrick-on-Suir. Participants from Carrick were bussed to Kilsheelan for the start.

Lions Club members and walkers were joined on the walk by Mary-Claire Rennick from Childhood Cancer Ireland and Roisin Kiely of Suir Dragon Paddlers, which is a dragon boat rowing team of breast cancer survivors.

A group of Suir Dragon Paddlers rowers also took part in the event.

Members of the recently formed Carrick-on-Suir Paddlers Club accompanied the walkers on their trek by canoeing on the Suir from Kilsheelan to Carrick-on-Suir.

Refreshments were laid on for walkers at a number of points along the Blueway.
Carrick-on-Suir Lions Club said it wished to thank its volunteers who helped organise the event and all who fundraised and participated in the sponsored walk.

“We thank everybody for turning up and taking part in this lovely event.”

She urged people who took part in the walk to return their sponsorship cards and funds to the Lions Club as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Carrick Lions Club will host a Light It Up Gold walk on Saturday, September 23 to raise awarenss about the impact of childhood cancer on children, adolescents, young adults and families.

It will start at Carrick Heritage Centre at 3pm and finish at Ormond Castle.
