A section of the Suir Blueway near Carrick-on-Suir is to be closed on weekdays for over two months to facilitate €550,000 worth of upgrade works on the amenity’s walk/cycle path.
The 2.5km section of the Blueway between Arrigan’s Boreen and the MSD plant at Ballydine will close from next Monday, July 29 until Friday, October 18 while the project is underway.
Tipperary County Council stressed the Blueway path will be open for use at weekends during the project, opening on Friday evening and closing again early on Monday mornings.
Sign posts will be erected along the route to inform walkers and cyclists of the temporary closure of this section of the Blueway on weekdays.
Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District Engineer Denis Power said the Council secured €500,000 Outdoor Infrastructure Recreation Scheme funding for the project with a further €50,000 contributed by the Council.
The upgrade works will involve widening and resurfacing the Blueway path.
“It’s a continuation of what we have done in the last few years widening and resurfacing sections of the Blueway starting at Seán Healy Park in Carrick-on-Suir,” he said.
