Castleview Lawn Tennis Club members were saddened to learn of the death last week of past member Noel Slattery of Chapel Road, Kilsheelan.
Mr Slattery was a stalwart of the Carrick-on-Suir tennis club in the 1960s and 1970s.
He was very much involved in the club’s development and in the purchase of its current grounds off Castle Street.
Noel worked as a projectionist in the old Castle Cinema when he came to Carrick-on Suir. This meant he had plenty of time on his hands during the days and took on the role of groundsman in the club keeping the grass courts in pristine condition for the summer season.
He was an all-round sportsman who also played rugby with Carrick RFC.
He served many years on the committee of Castleview LTC and was club captain on many occasions. He was part of many successful Castleview teams along with his great friends the late Tommy Walsh, Tom Glascott, Noel Treacy and John O'Keeffe, all now passed to their eternal reward.
Noel was a great character and one of life's gentlemen.
All at Castleview LTC extend deepest sympathy to his family and many friends at this difficult time.
