Senator Imelda Goldsboro’s 21-year-old daughter Amy and former Carrick-on-Suir councillor Sylvia Cooney-Sheehan will battle it out at a Fianna Fáil convention this Friday night to secure the co-option nomination to fill the Ballingarry senator’s county council seat.
The selection convention to choose the party’s nominee for co-option onto the Council takes place in Knocknagow Community Centre in Mullinahone this Friday, March 7 at 8pm.
Fianna Fáil members from throughout Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District will be eligible to vote at the convention to find a replacement for Goldsboro, who served on the council for 11 years from 2014 to last month.
Amy Goldsboro will be vying to kick start her political career by following in her mother’s footsteps and continuing her work of representing Ballingarry and the wider district on the Council.

Sylvia Cooney-Sheehan, meanwhile, is seeking to make a political comeback after an 11-year break from political life.
The retired Carrick hair salon owner bowed out of local politics in 2014 after failing to secure a seat in the election to the new unified Tipperary County Council.
She served on the former Carrick-on-Suir Town Council for 15 years from 1999 until its abolition in 2014 and was a member of the former South Tipperary County Council from 2009 to 2014.
