Tipperary cycling club enjoys great success at Kerry tournament

There was a strong showing from Panduit Carrick Wheelers CC at today’s John Drumm Cup races in Currow, Co Kerry, with the club securing victories and top placings across the board.

The underage races set the tone early on in the day, with Orla Mulhearne storming to an impressive sprint finish victory in the U16 girls’ race, highlighting the strength of some of the club’s emerging talent.

In the senior races, the club had four riders in action including former national champion Declan Hanrahan who produced a spectacular performance in the C3 race.

Hanrahan broke clear alongside Victor Morgan of Blarney CC and, despite a fierce chase behind, had enough left to sprint it out against Morgan and take the victory on the day.

Hanrahan also had company in the race with teammate Martin O’Loughlin finishing up strongly from the next group on the road to claim an excellent sixth place.

The feature C1 race on the day was raced over 93kms and unsurprisingly the club had Patrick O’Loughlin at the heart of the action.

He made it into a decisive 10-man breakaway that shaped the outcome of the race.

Despite a late solo attack by Paul Kennedy of Team Skyline that split the leaders on the final lap, Patrick rode strongly to a fine fourth place finish against top competition.
