Aqua aerobics classes in Tipperary Town 'unlikely' to happen in evenings
It is unlikely that aqua aerobics classes in one Tipperary town will be offered in an evening time slot, a council meeting has heard.
Independent councillor John O’Heney put forward a motion at the April meeting of the Tipperary-Cahir-Cashel Municipal District that aqua aerobics classes be offered in the evenings at the council-run Sean Treacy Memorial Swimming Pool in Tipperary Town.
Speaking at the meeting, Cllr O’Heney said that many people had asked him if they could offer an evening class.
“The aqua aerobics classes are back the last couple of months and they’re proving very successful and very popular,” Cllr O’Heney said.
“I was just wondering if the administrator would speak to the management about if there was any possibility of putting an evening class on. I’ve been contacted by dozens upon dozens of people who would think that it would be a very good idea, and very beneficial to the pool and to the community. The classes that are taking place on a Monday and on a Wednesday are currently taking place during the day.

“They’re very popular, they’re booked out, and I think there’s huge scope there for an evening aqua aerobics class,” Cllr O’Heney added.
District administrator Anslem McGowen told councillors at the meeting that due to timetabling issues, an evening aqua aerobics class at the pool was unlikely.
“The timetable is completely full, as of this moment, the swimming clubs have booked out the entirety of the evening sessions, so there isn’t capacity in the swimming pool, unless they were to move the swimming clubs to daytime, which would be a negotiation with the swimming clubs.

“They have specifically picked up those slots, and have done for quite some time,” Mr McGowan said.
However, Mr McGowan said that he would raise the issue with the swimming pool management to see if something could be agreed.
