Tipperary County Council is seeking Carrick-on-Suir people’s views on how the derelict former Goldcrop site on Carrick-on-Suir’s North Quay should be redeveloped.

The Council has appointed Reddy Architecture + Urbanism to carry out a Feasibility and Concept Design for the 2.7 acres site as part of the Carrick-on-Suir Riverside Regeneration project.

The first step in this project involves the local authority seeking the views of the people of Carrick-on-Suir on the “future development potential” of the site. The Council has set up an online survey and is encouraging the people of the town to fill it out.

The site, which is derelict for many years, was purchased by the Council in 2022.

It is positioned close to Dillon Bridge and is adjacent to the North Quay and Castle Lane. It is located between Ormond Castle and Main Street and is directly behind Brewery Lane Theatre, Strand Theatre, Tudor Artisan Hub and the Digital & Enterprise Hub currently being developed in the old Post Office building as part of the Carrick Regeneration Scheme.

Carrick Municipal District Administrator Marie Cox said the Council hopes the people of Carrick and the wider area will respond to the survey being circulated in order to provide their views on the future of this key site.

The survey was circulated to schools in the town about three weeks ago.

Ms Cox said a QR code for the survey will be widely circulated on social media and is also accessible via the link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QQPTYNS

Paper copies of the survey is available at Carrick Municipal District’s Civic Offices at New St., Carrick for people who don’t wish to fill it out online.

The Carrick Riverside Regeneration Project, including the Feasibility and Concept Design for the former Goldcrop site, is being co-funded by the Government and European Union through the EU Just Transition Fund.

Fáilte Ireland’s Regenerative Tourism and Placemaking Scheme under the Just Transition Fund aims to transform tourism across eight counties in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands and Ancient East by diversifying the local economy and providing new employment opportunities.

“This project will allow for master planning and concept design of this key site located in the heart of Carrick-on-Suir,” said Carrick MD Cathaoirleach Cllr Mark Fitzgerald.

He added: “This is an exciting opportunity for the people of Carrick to give their opinion on the future of this strategic site, and lead to continued development in the town.”

The survey will remain open until Monday, June 30 at 1pm. Its results will be analysed and lead to further public consultation later in the year.
