The council grants help fund advertising, promotions, lights, crafts fairs and street entertainment designed to increase consumer spending in Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District's towns and villages over Christmas.

Community, business and cultural organisations in Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District have secured €7,600 in Christmas Retails Grants from Tipperary County Council.

The grants ranging from €1,600 to €300 were awarded to seven organisations to help fund activities such as advertising, promotions, lights, crafts fairs and street entertainment designed to increase consumer spending or retain spending in the district's towns and villages over Christmas.

Carrick-on-Suir Business Association and the Tudor Artisan Hub Arts Collective in Carrick were each allocated €1,600 grants for their efforts to attract people into Carrick-on-Suir for the Christmas period.

Fethard/Killusty Community Council secured €1,400 for the Light Up Fethard Christmas Weekend and Fethard Business & Tourism Group received €1,400 for Fethard Christmas lights.

Mullinahone Tidy Towns Group was allocated €800 for marking Christmas in the village while the Millennium Family Resource Centre in Glengoole secured €500 to assist with the Glengoole Food and Craft Fair.

Cloneen Sports & Social Club secured a €300 grant towards the cost of hosting a Christmas festival craft fair.

The list of Christmas Retail Grants was provided to Carrick Municipal District councillors at their monthly meeting.

Carrick Municipal District Cathaoirleach Cllr David Dunne said there was a lot of investment going into the district’s communities this Christmas and he urged the people of the district to shop local where possible.
