Bishop of Waterford & Lismore Alphonsus Cullinan has presented a number of Fifth year students from Carrick-on-Suir's Scoil Mhuire Secondary School with Pope John Paul II Award medals.

The medals  were presented to Emma Phelan, Leah Greene, Daisy Geoghegan, Lucy Skehan and Avril Norris at a ceremony in St Carthage's Cathedral in Lismore.

Two other medal recipients  Fiona Holton and Katie O'Shea were unable to attend the ceremony.

The Pope John Paul II Award recognises young people for their commitment to their faith and community.

Participants can earn a gold, silver or bronze award by taking an active role in their parish and social activities over a period of eight,14  or 20  weeks. The students were supported in achieving the awards  by their teacher Ms Nyhan during Transition Year.
