Dogs are not welcome at regional sports hub in Tipperary

The Regional Sports Hub in Clonmel has been a very popular facility since opening last year

People visiting the Clonmel Regional Sports Hub are requested not to bring dogs with them.

Patrick Davoren, the Sports Facility Coordinator at the sports hub, says there are issues with dog fouling and irresponsible owners.

“There are lots of kids on bikes as well as runners and children with special needs visiting the hub,” he says.

“Dog poo is lethal for humans.

“There are 17 signs up explaining that no dogs are allowed on the campus but dog owners continue to ignore these signs”.

Meanwhile, District Administrator Carol Creighton, responding to representations by Cllr Siobhán Ambrose, told a meeting of Clonmel Borough District that signs for the sports hub were being looked after by TUS (Technological University of the Shannon).

It had also been agreed to instal bins there.

She said that TUS had also been requested to provide a coin facility to open the toilets when the coordinator wasn’t present.

Cllr Ambrose described the sports hub as “a hidden gem”.

However signs were needed at the entrance to the facility at the bypass road, and the toilets were only open when the coordinator was present, she said.
