Uisce Éireann branded 'a disgrace' because of latest water outages in Tipperary

Uisce Éireann say that repairs to a burst water main won't be completed until 2pm this afternoon, Thursday

Uisce Éireann/Irish Water has been branded "not fit for purpose" by angry residents of an area of Clonmel that has endured water outages for the past three days.

Residents in the western area of Clonmel, including Wheatfields, Ashgrove, Abbey Meadows and Cherrymount, along with other areas of the county's largest town, have experienced severe problems with their water supply in recent years.

The latest difficulties began on Tuesday afternoon, when the taps ran dry from approximately 4-7pm. The water was also out for most of Wednesday, from approximatey 9am until midnight.

Despite a report on the Uisce Éireann website stating that repairs to a burst water main would be completed by 2am on Thursday, the areas affected still have no water supply this morning, Thursday.

A call to the company this morning indicated that the repairs won't be completed until 2pm this afternoon, Thursday, and that residents should allow three to four hours for their supply to be fully restored.

Residents have taken to social media, among other platforms, to vent their anger at the situation. One resident labelled Uisce Éireann "a disgrace" and "not fit for purpose".

Another asked, "how long does it take to take to fix a burst water main?".

Another stated, "how can we believe Uisce Éireann when they say the water supply will be restored this afternoon?".

Residents who signed up to the company's text alert service say they have received no communication from Uisce Éireann.
