For Heritage Week 2025, Tipperary Tipperary Museum of Hidden History will deliver an ambitious and impactful programme to highlight Heritage Week and their new Heritage in Hands project.
Both aims to preserve and promote traditional Irish craft skills, ensuring these vital aspects of cultural heritage are celebrated visibly and passed on to future generations.

The Heritage Councils Heritage Stewardship Fund, awarded the Museum €30,000 to ensure traditional crafts and skills are kept alive for new generations to come.
The Hands in Heritage project will intertwine with the Medieval Village during Heritage Week, Saturday 23rd August 2025.
“The programme includes a stone carving session led by master craftsman Philip Quinn, offering participants hands-on experience of this ancient skill. Acclaimed willow artist Lynn Kirkham will host a workshop on crafting traditional shapes from willow, supported by the Clonmel Community Choir, blending heritage skills with cultural performance. North Tipperary Textile artist Leisa Grey will lead a textile upcycling workshop, merging traditional sewing techniques with sustainable practices to promote environmentally conscious heritage engagement,” said Marie McMahon, Manager of the Tipperary Museum services.
Saturday 23rd August, in association with Clonmel Library, Tommy Lanigan will bring stories to life for young and old while, Michael Fortune www.folklore.ie will speak about Vernacular / Traditional Irish furniture. This and a whole lot more will be unveiled closer to the time.
Additionally, on Sunday 17th August at 12noon, a guided hike with Neil Dennehy and Will O’ Connell, to Glenary’s Lost Village, starting at Careys Castle, to the deserted village of Glenary (described as ‘a green museum to a departed era’) provides a unique opportunity to explore a historically significant site.
This comprehensive series of events will foster intergenerational learning, enhance community engagement, and highlight the value of Ireland’s tangible and intangible heritage.
