Among those taking part were Cllr Richie Molloy and Jimmy Ryan.

"A lovely morning at the Holy Year Cross this morning and great to meet Jimmy Ryan on his White Horse ( former principal of St Mary’s). It felt a bit like Tir Na Og," said Cllr Molloy.

The annual Mass at the Holy Year Cross took place at  11am.

The original cross was erected to celebrate the Holy Year in 1950. Since then a Mass has been celebrated on the site at Cnoc a Chomortais, or Scrouthea Hill, on each August Bank Holiday Monday.
