Cllr Liam Browne had highlighted the issue on social media, he said: "I received the following email, from a local bus operator, who outlined a very serious incident on the motorway around Cashel, where rocks were throw at a coach carrying students.

"It has been reported to the gardaí, and some may wonder why I am publicising it. I am doing so, to let people know, it is happening, and to contact the gardaí...so we can put as much pressure on the various organisations, to try to get this stopped before someone is killed.

"Because someone will be killed if this continues.

"People who know the youngsters doing this...will read this post. Talk to them. Tell them the seriousness of what they are doing. And tell them, they will end up in jail for a long time, if they cause an accident."

The email shared by the councillor read: "I am contacting you as a matter of health and safety.

"On 27th February at approximately 10pm, two of our coaches were on the M7 returning from a school event in Coláiste Dun Iascaigh in Cahir.

"On passing under the flyover near Palmershill, before junction 7 one of our coaches was struck with what the driver thinks was a rock.

"This coach had 52 secondary school students and teachers on board on the time.

"Luckily, the driver reacted in the correct manner but if he hadn't there could have been a major incident as a result.

"This incident was reported to the gardaí.

"As a local representative I wanted to bring this to your attention in the hope that something can be done about it. We are a family-run business and as you know in the current climate it is difficult enough to run a business without the threat of this kind of damage on our roads."
