Tipperary gardaí issue urgent warning regarding firearms in the county
Tipperary gardaí have issued an urgent warning to unlicensed firearm holders in the county.
In a social media post, the gardaí confirmed that they have started to seize firearms in Tipperary that are unlicensed to date.
People have been warned to contact a firearms officer at their local Garda Station to ensure that they have a valid license for their firearm.
Although guns are the most common type of firearm in the country, crossbows, spearguns and airguns with a muzzle velocity of over 1 joule (including paintball markers) all require a licence in Ireland.

To legally own a firearm in Ireland you must have a license, be over the age of 16, keep the firearm securely, be living in the country for at least 6 months unless you are temporarily resident here, be competent to use one and of course not be disqualified from using one.
Most firearms in Ireland are used for hunting, however what many people may not know is that a separate license is needed for hunting deer.
If you want to make a complaint about the use of firearms you should contact the gardaí immediately.
