Tributes have been paid to a young man in his 20s remembered as a "lovable rogue" and "larger than life character" following his tragic death in a crash on the Tipperary/Laois border earlier this week.
Colm Lynch O'Sullivan, of Cloncourse, Ballaghmore, Co Laois and Roscrea, Co Tipperary died in a single-vehicle crash near the Laois/Tipperary border in the early hours of Thursday, June 26.
According to his RIP.ie death notice, Colm was the "dearly loved son of Olive and Con" and is "sadly missed by his brothers Brendan and Tómas, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, niece, extended family and all his friends." He is predeceased by his sister Grace.
Friends and those who knew Colm have described him as someone who lit up every room.
One tribute shared: "Colm will always be remembered as a larger than life character and would always lit up the corridors of CCR. So grateful to have cherished memories of the school years with Colm and honoured to be his friend."
Another wrote: "Deepest sympathy to Con, Olive, Tòmas and Brendan on this very sad day. Colm was such a lovely lad and will be truly missed - May he rest in peace."
A third remembered his spirit: "I am so sorry to hear about Colm's passing. He was a lovable rogue — full of mischief and charm. Thinking of you all at this difficult time."
Colm's funeral Mass will take place at 11am on Monday morning in St. Molua's Church, Ballaghmore, following reposal at Tierney's Funeral Home, Roscrea on Sunday evening. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Gardaí confirmed that Colm, who was the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision on the R445 near Ballaghmore, Borris-in-Ossory, Co. Laois at around 3.15am on Thursday morning. The road was closed for several hours for a forensic examination.
An appeal has been issued for anyone with information or dash-cam footage from the area to contact Portlaoise Garda Station.
"Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from the area between 3am and 3.30am are asked to make it available to Gardaí.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on (057) 8674100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station."
