Gerard was a retired member of An Garda Siochana. Despite being diagnosed with a serious terminal illness a few years ago, Gerard continued to live his life to the full and never complained. He worked his farm, enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his little grandson Joe whom he adored and was totally dedicated to his local GAA Club Kyle. Gerard hurled with the club from Juvenile grade up and was still playing into his late fifties. He had the honour of officially opening the new walking track at the Kyle club grounds two years ago. Members of the club formed a guard of honour at his funeral on Sunday. May Gerard rest in peace.
