TUS Dean Ryan (U17A) Preliminary Hurling Quarter Final
Our Ladys Templemore 5-24
St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Tulla 1-13
Our Ladys Templemore booked their place in the quarter final proper of the Dean Ryan Cup after a comprehensive win over visiting Clare school St. Joseph’s Tulla to Templemore on Thursday afternoon.
Chris Dunne and Philip O’Dwyer combined for a 4-11 and they were the two standout players for the Templemore school, who had far too much for Tulla on the day, who had only the quality of Clare county minor hurler Liam Murphy to write home about at full-time.
From the get-go, this game was dominated by the Tipperary school who had a 2-11 to 0-8 half-time lead with Philip O’Dwyer’s 13th minute goal and a fortuitous Chris Dunne long range free dropping into the net giving them the goals.
Our Ladys were in total control of the first half and perhaps left Tulla in the game despite the big advantage as they hit eight wides in that first half, with Padraig O’Shea in particular guilty of some wayward shooting.
However, O’Shea and co were far more ruthless in the second half and when Chris Dunne powered through the Tulla defence to goal within a minute of the restart, it kicked them into emphatic action.
The game was out of sight for Tulla - even at that early stage - as two more goals came their way in the half with the aforementioned hitting his stride with a goal in the 45th minute while Dunne completed his hat-trick soon after to give Templemore a commanding victory and a place in the quarter-final proper in the coming weeks.
Thurles CBS were also in action on Wednesday but fell at the first hurdle after coming up just short against De La Salle in Walsh Park, losing on a scoreline of 1-22 to 2-18.
