UCC got the better of crosstown rivals MTU Cork in the final round of the Fitzgibbon Cup on Wednesday evening, and in doing so, booked a final-four spot in this year's competition.

Tipperary senior panelists Peter McGarry and Darragh Stakelum played for the skull and crossbones with McGarry hitting two points in the game while Stakelum played the full game at midfield.

MTU Cork put up a good fight to take the game down to the final whistle with Cork's Jack Cahalane and Waterford's Sean Walsh the main threats for them in the game, and despite the defeat, they will have a quarter-final tie to look forward to in the coming week.

Scorers: UCC: Ben Cunningham (0-12, 0-9f, 0-1 65); William Buckley, Michael Mullaney, Peter McGarry all 0-2 each; Cathal McCarthy, Brian Keating, Daniel Hogan, Fionn Coleman, Eoin O’Leary all 0-1 each.

MTU Cork: Jack Cahalane (0-9, 0-7f); Seán Walsh 0-3; Diarmuid Healy, Alan Walsh 0-2 each; Darragh O’Sullivan, Micheál Mullins, David O’Sullivan, Rhys McCarthy all 0-1 each.
