 RIP: Tributes flood in as Tipperary GAA legend passes away

Many have offered their condolences to the family of Seamus Mackey as he passed away peacefully in the wonderful care of the staff of Fennor Hill Nursing Home, Urlingford over the weekend. 

He was a great servant of his club Holycross Ballycahill and also achieved All-Ireland glory with Tipperary in 1965.

Predeceased by his parents James and Liz, sister Eileen. Deeply regretted by his loving family; wife Josephine (née Kennedy), daughters Caroline (Foley) and Michelle (Breen), sons Seamus and P.J. grandchildren Jamie, Kayleigh, Shauna, Cathal and Róisin, sons-in-law Tony and Conor, daughter-in-law Lorraine, brothers Larry, Mick and Billy, sisters Kathleen, Philly, Marian, Ann and Janie, nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives, neighbours and friends.

A spokesperson for Holycross Ballycahill GAA, who posted a tribute to Facebook said: "Our sincere sympathies to the Mackey family on the passing of Seamus.

"Seamus was a wonderful servant of our club over many decades as a player, selector, officer, committee member and helper at our grounds."

Some of the condolences posted on RIP.ie include: 

"Sincere sympathy to the Mackey family, Seamus made a major contribution to Holycross, and Tipp GAA. May he Rest in Peace."

"Very sorry to hear of Seamus’s passing. He was always a great friend of mine. May he Rest in Peace."

"Deepest sympathy to all the Mackey family on sad passing of Seamus, a good honest hurler. You couldn't give away many frees when playing against Seamus."

Requiem Mass on Monday, March 3 at 11.30am. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
