Ardfinnan man Ger Meagher has penned his thoughts on Tipperary’s hurling achievements in recent years -

“May I, through your medium, express my thoughts on Tipperary’s recent hurling achievements.

“As a proud Tipperary man I’m obviously in good spirits after our tremendous hurling year.

"Since 2016 we have now won three Senior, three Under 20/21 and three Minor All- Irelands.

“In the lead-up to this year’s All-Ireland final, you’d never think we won anything!

“It was Cork for most of the experts. We had no hope, despite beating reigning All -Ireland champions Clare and Kilkenny, the Leinster champions.

“Ever since, all the talk is ‘what happened Cork’.

“I’ll tell you what happened Cork. They met a driven, proud Tipperary team who were better than them.

“I’m glad we upset Canning and Shefflin and their like, and disappointed I was with their anti-Tipp vibes all year.

“The history of hurling, if some of these people wish to research it, shows every year is a different year and Tipperary can always come from ‘nowhere’ to win an All- Ireland, as can any county.

“To go back before our 1949/51 three in-a-row era we hadn’t won a game in three years, then Cork won the next three. That’s the magic of hurling.

“In 1993 Tipperary hammered Clare 3-27 to 2-12; what Clare person would see most of this team lifting Liam MacCarthy only two years later. That’s hurling.

“So this ‘shock’ of coming from ‘nowhere’ doesn’t add up for Tipperary this year.

“We are a proud GAA County and always have hope. James Woodlock, Brendan Cummins and Liam Cahill are all young brilliant Tipperary men and let them carry on in their roles.

“Tiobraid Árann Abú!”
