Roscrea Community Development Council will host a Public form in the town’s Abbey Hall next Monday, November 18, at 8pm, to facilitate the people of Roscrea and district to meet the General Election candidates for the North Tipperary constituency, to listen to their manifestos and to question them on their promises so that the people of Roscrea and district can make an informed choice of whom they think should represent them in Dail Eireann.
In the last General Election Tipperary County as a whole was one constituency which had five seat representation in the Dáil.
Thus the outgoing TD’s for that constituency were Martin Browne (Sinn Féin), Jackie Cahill (Fianna Fáil), Alan Kelly (Labour), Michael Lowry (Independent) and Mattie McGrath (Independent).
However, for this forthcoming election, Tipperary is again divided into two constituencies, north and south, with the north also covering some of north west Kilkenny.
The new constituency of North Tipperary will have three seats in Dáil.
At present there are eleven candidates declared and fighting for those three seats.
They are Alan Kelly (Labour), Michael Lowry (Independent), Phyll Bugler (Fine Gael), Jim Ryan (Independent), Iva Pocock (Green Party), Francis O’Toole (Aontú), Dan Harty (Sinn
Féin), Diana Dwyer (People Before Profit), Peter Madden (Independent/National Alliance) Ryan O’Meara (Fianna Fáil) and Michael Smith (Fianna Fáil).
Each candidate present on the night will be invited to address the public meeting outlining their plans and in particular insofar as those plans relate to and facilitate the development of Roscrea and district and the well being of the people who live in Roscrea and its catchment area.
The public in attendance on the night will then have the opportunity to question individual candidates while the Forum will end with a brief summary from each candidate.
The public forum is of course free and open to anyone to attend and there is an open
invitation to any candidate whose name will appear on the ballot paper for the North
Tipperary constituency to attend and address the meeting.
