Ahead of the General Election, Michael Lowry discussed the new challenges being faced by the electorate of the North West Kilkenny part of the constituency, but says that he will carry out his duties there as normal, if elected.
“North Kilkenny has brought a new dimension to this election.
“It makes it a totally different election, it makes it very unpredictable. There’s no such thing as anybody being safe because of the fact that we don’t know what’s going to happen in that area.
“So people in that area, they feel disjointed, they feel disconnected, and they’ve lost a kind of understanding and friendships that they had with the Kilkenny TDs.
“And then you have this mix then of two councils.
“You have the TDS, and then you have the councillors in the area, so where does the responsibility rest, is it with the councillors in Kilkenny or is it with the TDs in North Tipp.
“It is illogical, it’s unworkable to be honest with you, in the long term. But look, we have to do with what we have, have to make the best of what we have,” he said.
Lowry’s base, he says, is Thurles, and he feels greatly proud of the work he has done to and for the town throughout his time in the Dáil.
