Tipperary council pledges to support Mullinahone community to develop digital hub

Tipperary County Council has promised to help a Mullinahone group turn part of the village’s community centre into a digital hub for remote workers in the wake of the Government’s allocation of €95,000 funding towards the project.

There was a hearty welcome for the  Town & Urban Renewal Scheme grant allocated to Mullinahone Community Council at Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District’s latest monthly meeting.

Leading the welcomes was Mullinahone Cllr Kevin O’Meara who asked the council to help the community group to develop the digital hub in view of the expertise it has already acquired through its involvement in the development of the Stable Lane Digital Hub  in Carrick-on-Suir.

The Independent councillor paid tribute to council staff for the help they gave Mullinahone Community Council  in making the application to the Department of Rural & Community Development.

“We can see the benefit now with this €95,000 funding. It’s hugely welcomed by the community centre group and the wider community,” he declared.

Carrick Municipal District  Cathaoirleach Cllr David Dunne of Sinn Féin also welcomed the allocation for Mullinahone and noted there was funding coming in “left, right and centre” for projects in Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District.

Cllr Dunne pointed to the €400,000 allocated for the purchase of the derelict Goldcrop site in Carrick-on-Suir as an example.

Carrick MD Director of Services Brian Beck congratulated the community group in Mullinahone for its vision in lodging the Town & Urban Renewal Scheme application.

And he assured Cllr O'Meara: “We will support them in whatever way we can to deliver the digital hub project.”
