Cllr Michael Murphy at the dangerous junction at Castleblake, near Rosegreen
Fears have been expressed that somebody could be killed on a dangerous stretch of road at Castleblake, near Rosegreen.
Cllr John FitzGerald told the monthly meeting of Clonmel Borough District that the road had been the scene of a number of traffic accidents, and his son had come across an accident there the previous weekend.
Cllr Michael Murphy said it wasn’t often he said it in the council chamber, but he was afraid that somebody would be killed on that ninety degrees bend between the entrance to the horse racing stables at Ballydoyle and the factory premises.
The roof had to be cut off a car involved in a recent accident.
There had been numerous accidents there and a lot of accidents weren’t even reported.
Cllr Murphy was aware that the council had applied for funding for vehicle-activated chevrons (or lines) and vehicle-activated dangerous bends ahead signs, under the 2023 Safety Improvement Works Programme.
He was sure that application would be successful, but short-term measures such as warning signs, road markings and crash barriers were also needed.
District Engineer Roger Noonan agreed that signs and road markings should be provided at that location in the meantime.
