Tipperary County Council is running a series of drop-in clinics around the county this week for business people about what they can save on their commercial rates bills by signing up to the early payment scheme.
Rate payers with an annual rates bill of up to €26,000 this year can avail of the early payment scheme reduction of 6%, subject to a maximum of €600, by paying their rates in full by July 31.
The deadline to avail of the scheme is extended to September if you pay your rates by direct debit.
" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Business people currently in arrears with their rates bills can avail of the early payment scheme by paying a minimum of the equivalent of your 2023 rates by July 31 and enter into an agreed payment plan to eliminate the arrears.
Vacant properties are not eligible for the early payment scheme.
The first of the council’s information drop-in clinics about the early payment scheme took place in Tipperary/Cahir/Cashel Municipal District offices at Rosanna Street in Tipperary on Monday morning and another is taking place in the Council’s Civic Offices in Nenagh today (Wednesday, February 22) from 10am to 12 noon.
Two drop-in clinics will be run at Carrick-on-Suir MD offices at the New Street based Carrick Town Hall and Thurles MD offices at Castle Avenue tomorrow (Thursday, February 23) between 10am and 12noon.
A drop-in-clinic will also take place at Tipperary County Council’s Civic Offices at Emmet St., Clonmel this Friday, February 24 from 11am to 1pm.
Tipperary County Council’s Finance Director Liam McCarthy announced details of the drop-in clinics at last week’s monthly meeting of the local authority’s councillors.
He said rates bills have just gone out to rate payers and he encouraged them to avail of the early payment scheme. He said council staff will go through any queries about the scheme and how to set up an early payment plan at the clinics.
Clonmel Cllr Siobhán Ambrose said she was delighted to see the drop-in clinics being organised and noted it was the second opportunity for rate payers to visit one.
Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Roger Kennedy said the council made a point of offsetting the increase in commercial rates approved for 2023 with the reduction offered by the early payment scheme.
“It’s important that people interact and benefit from it,” he added.
