Family and friends of Brig Gen Dinny Lacy of the 3rd Battalion of the 3rd Tipperary Brigade came together to mark the exact centenary of the day he was killed in action by Free State forces in the Glen of Aherlow during the Civil War.

On Saturday, February 18, they gathered at the spot where, on February 18, 1923, at Ballydavid, Bansha, Brig Gen Lacey died. He was just 34 years old.

Nora and Michael O’Gorman, proprietors of the site where a small cross marks the place of his death, and knowledgeable hosts, welcomed everyone to the site.

Joseph O’Keeffe of Glenough, Rossmore, placed a bouquet of lilies at the monument.

Joseph is the son of Vol Con O’Keeffe, and nephew of Vol Dan O’Keeffe, Rossmore Company, and Nora, Bridget and Lena O’Keeffe, active members of Cumann na mBan.
