Gardaí in the Clonmel District are seeking the assistance of the public in their investigations into a spate of break-ins and interference with parked vans in Clonmel, Carrick-on-Suir, Fethard and Mullinahone last weekend.
Tools were stolen from four of the five vans targeted and all the incidents occurred between last Friday, March 10 and Sunday, March 12.
A van parked in the Prior Park Hill estate in Clonmel was forcibly entered overnight on Friday/Saturday March 10/11 and a number of tools were taken.
Tools were stolen from a van parked in Clonmel’s Auburn Park Estate overnight on Saturday/Sunday March 11 and 12.
Tools were also stolen from a van parked on Fethard’s Main Street that was forcibly entered between approximately 11pm last Friday and Saturday morning.
A Clonmel Garda Station spokesperson said garda enquiries have established at least three suspects were involved in forcibly opening the van in Fethard and were observed leaving the area in a dark-coloured hatchback car.
A van parked in Mullinahone’s Killaghy Crescent Estate was forcibly entered between last Friday evening and Monday morning and a number of tools were stolen from the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the lock of a van parked in the Glenview Estate at Ballyrichard, Carrick-on-Suir was interfered with between midnight last Friday and 9am last Saturday.
A Garda spokesperson urged the public to take measures to protect their vehicles in the wake of this spate of van break-ins.
“The public are being strongly advised to lock parked or unattended vehicles at all times, day and night, and to avoid keeping any sums of money or other items of value in vehicles,” she said.
“Enquiries are ongoing into these incidents and anyone with any information is asked to contact Clonmel Garda Station (District HQ) on (052) 6177640 or phone the Garda Confidential Line Free-phone 1800 666 111,2” the Garda spokesperson added.
