The Comeragh Crossing 2023  is set to be bigger and better than ever

The Comeragh Crossing is on Saturday, 1 st July 2023

Dungarvan Hillwalking Club will host the popular Comeragh Crossing on Saturday, 1 st July 2023. First held in 1996 as the George Harney Memorial Walk the walk has evolved into four walks suitable for a range of abilities. 

Barbara Duff, Chairperson of DHWC noted that in recent years many people have discovered the benefits of exercising in the outdoors including hillwalking, and the Comeragh Crossing is a great way to discover the beautiful scenery of the Comeraghs. The walks range in length from 12km to 45km and all walks include Cruachan with fantastic views over Dungarvan Harbour and surrounding areas.

The Comeragh Challenge takes in Clonmel to Kilgobinet Sports Centre, Bohadoon. This self navigated walk is 45kms, has an ascent of 2,000m (approx) and is aimed at the very experienced and fit walker with navigation skills. It takes walkers via Lachtnafrankee and Knockanaffrin ridge to the Nire Valley, then via the Gap, Carrignagour, Boola Cairn to Coumfea, Seefin, Farbreaga and Cruachán. The entry fee is €50.

The Comeragh Crossing is Clonmel to Kilgobinet Sports Centre, Bohadoon. This walk is 35kms and takes 8 – 10 hours to complete via Long hill, Punch Bowl and the slopes of Knockanaffrin to the Nire Valley, then Coumfea, Seefin, Treenearla Commons, Mauma Road and Cruachan. Mainly on mountain terrain and has an ascent of 1,250m (approx). Club marshals and sweepers will be on the route. The entry fee is €50.

The Nire Valley Walk starts at the Nire Valley car park to Kilgobinet Sports Centre, Bohadoon. This walk is 20kms long and has an ascent of 900m (approx), it takes 5 – 6 hours to complete via Coumfea, Seefin, Treenearla Commons, Mauma Road and Cruachan. Club marshals and sweepers will be on the route. The entry fee is €50.

Kilbrien Walk.is a circular walk from Kilgobinet Sports Centre, Bohadoon. This walk is 12 kms and has an ascent of 350m (approx) and it takes about 3 hours to complete. Via Mauma Road and Cruachan. Club marshals and sweepers will be on the route. The entry fee is €25.

Transport will be provided to the start of all walks from Kilgobinet Sports Centre which is the
finishing point for all walks and where a hot meal will be served to all walkers. Proceeds from this year’s walk will be distributed to South Eastern Mountain Rescue, Waterford Hospice and Dungarvan Lions Club.
