The plaque at the Borstal Gate, Clonmel, remembering the local Volunteers of 1916
Clonmel’s annual Easter Rising Commemoration takes place this Sunday morning.
The ceremony will include a raising of the tricolour flag and a reading of the 1916 Proclamation at the site of the town’s 1916 Rising memorial at the top of Emmet Street near Borstal Gate at 11.30 am.
The commemoration plaque there honours the 43 Clonmel Volunteers who stood ready in 1916 for the Easter Rising.
This annual event is organised by the local Coiste Spiorad 1916 Commemoration Committee and has been running each year since a magnificent monument was erected on the site during the centenary year of 2016.
The brief ceremony will finish with the singing of the national anthem, Amhrán na bhFiann.
All are welcome to attend.
