The Ballyporeen Music Maker festival is back this Saturday and Sunday, April 29 and 30, bigger than ever with a superb line-up to suit all tastes.

Once again, any profits from the festival will go back into community projects including the community walkway, the old schoolhouse refurbishment and community Astro-turf.

The festival moves outdoors to the sensory garden in the middle of the village with a packed line up from Saturday through until Sunday evening. The local pubs are also supporting the event with music over the course of the weekend.

The weekend kicks off with a FREE event in the sensory garden on Saturday afternoon featuring a wide range of local acts including Amy Casey Kelly, D’Ellas, Mia and Freddie Dewhurst. There will be cakes with Teas and coffee on offer from the tidy towns group who have kindly lent their support to the Festival.

This year the festival organisers have gone with an 80s music theme, with a Saturday evening spectacular ABBA Super Trouper show expected to be a sell-out. ABBA Super Trouper is widely regarded as the best Irish ABBA tribute act and will include all the great ABBA hits in their setlist.

Believe it or not but we are coming up on the 50th anniversary since Abba won the Eurovision in 1974 with one of the most successful songs of all time ‘Waterloo’. The single became a No. 1 hit in several countries and went on to sell nearly six million copies, making it one of the best-selling singles in history.

At the 50th anniversary celebration of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005, it was chosen as the best song in the competition’s history.

The hits are endless, Mamma Mia, Knowing me knowing you, The winner takes it all, SOS, Money Money, Chiquitita, Dancing Queen, Does Your Mother Know, Fernando, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)”, Honey Honey, and so many more timeless hits.

This promises to be a night to remember and ticket sales have been brisk. Come along and enjoy a great ABBA experience. All the local pubs have got into the spirit of the weekend and there will be 80s music at various venues over the weekend.

The Lost Gecko

Sunday afternoon has a great appeal for a fun family day out with a wide range of music and hot food available. A range of local artists will perform and entertain the crowds. Music starts at 2pm and the lineup includes, The Bugs, Before the Ghosts, The Lost Gecko and Sham. This is a free event and sure to attract a great crowd with a great Buzz around the place.
