The organisers of Carrick-on-Suir's Darkness Into Light 5km walk/run in aid of Pieta House this Saturday will have a Memory Table set up at the start point where people can place the photo of a loved one they have lost to suicide.
Several hundred people are expected to take part in the town's Darkness Into Light walk/run in aid of suicide and self-harm prevention charity Pieta, which starts from Carrick-on-Suir's CBS Green School at 4.15am on Saturday.
The route will be a circuit of the town crossing both Dillon Bridge and the Old Bridge with the finish back at the Green School.
Mary Power of Carrick-on-Suir's Darkness Into Light Committee said people wishing to do the walk/run can still register to take part by attending one of registration sessions the committee is running at the former Glascott's shop at 20 Main Street, Carrick tomorrow (Thursday) from 6pm to 8pm and on Friday from 4pm to 6pm. Darkness Into Light t-shirts will be given out to people registering at both sessions.
You can also register online by logging onto: www.darknessintolight.ie. Registrations will also be taken at the Green School before the start of the walk/run on Saturday but there won't be Darkness Into Light t-shirts available to hand out to late entrants.
Mary said there will be a Tree of Hope in the Green School hall where Darkness Into Light participants can hang a card with a message they have written in memory of a loved one they have lost to suicide.
The tree, donated by Topline Cleary's Hardware store in Carrick, will be planted in the Green School grounds after the event. The memory cards will buried in the ground under the tree.
Carrick's Darkness Into Light Committee is also introducing a Memory Table at the Green School hall for the first time where Darkness Into Light participants can place a picture of a loved one they have lost to suicide. Photos can be placed on the table before the start of the walk/run and be collected at the end of the event.
More information on the event is available on the Carrick-on-Suir Darkness Into Light Facebook page.
