The cast of All My Sons preparing for their White Memorial performance
All My Sons by Arthur Miller opens on Tuesday May 23 in the White Memorial
Theatre in Clonmel for a four-night run.
The play is set during the Second World War. It is about a successful business man Joe
Keller. He lives peacefully with his wife Kate and his son Chris, his other son (Larry a pilot) is
lost in the war. However Joes wife Kate believes that Larry is still alive somewhere even
after so many years.
Joe has failed to fulfil his social obligations, blinded by lust for money during the war, his
plant shipped out faulty parts resulting in 21 planes crashing and the deaths of 21 pilots. His
partner Steve Deever is in prison as a result because Joe was absent the day the parts were
shipped. Steve claimed that Joe told him over the phone to ship out the parts but the court
didn’t believe him. As the story develops Deevers son now a lawyer, visits his father in
prison for the first time in years, he arrives at Joes house to stop his sister Anne who was
Larrys girl from marrying Chris, Larry’s brother. The question is, who was responsible for the
crime Steve? Can Joe’s actions be justified, how did Larry die and will the secret come
out? The play portrays society and how human beings tend to ignore the bigger picture and
have become so materialistic and selfish.
