Senator Ahearn with Minister Heather Humphreys
Senator Garret Ahearn has welcomed funding of €997,861 for Tipperary through the Community Recognition Fund. The major initiative is designed to support and reward communities that have welcomed families from Ukraine.
The Community Recognition Fund, which was launched 24th January, aims to support the development of community infrastructure and facilities in recognition of the contribution being made by communities across the country in welcoming and hosting significant numbers of arrivals from Ukraine and other countries.
The funding is specifically targeted at projects located in communities, towns and villages that are hosting the beneficiaries of temporary protection.
Senator Garret Ahearn said “This is extremely welcome news for Tipperary. This is part of a €50 million package servicing 880 projects across Ireland."
Senator Garret Ahearn continued “Investment in our local clubs and facilities is imperative for our communities. In Tipperary, we have some wonderful clubs that serve our towns and villages well. It is vital that funding is made available through various streams in order to allow them to grow and develop.
“I am particularly happy to see Fethard Town Park, Clonmel Football Club and Dundrum receive funding through this stream. The investment announced today will serve our communities far into the future.
“Communities across Tipperary have really responded to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, opening their homes and facilities to people very much in need. This funding will help these communities who have responded to develop projects ranging from largescale multi-purpose sports facilities, transport infrastructure such as community vehicles and bus shelters, walks, playgrounds and equipment for sports clubs.” Senator Garret Ahearn concluded
