Carrick-on-Suir River Rescue volunteers removing the window frames from River Anner at Boherboy Bridge near Cloneen

A Cloneen councillor has praised the work of Carrick-on-Suir River Rescue volunteers who have removed broken window frames that were dumped in a popular swimming spot in his community.
Cllr Mark Fitzgerald paid tribute to the four volunteers who last Thursday removed the frames and broken glass dumped in the River Anner at Boherboy Bridge between Mullinahone and Cloneen.
“They did their best to remove all the window frames and glass from the river and deserve to be acknowledged for the amazing work they did,” he said. Cllr Fitzgerald said he was alerted to the presence of the dumped window frames in the river last Saturday, May 20.
He highlighted the illegal dumping incident at Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District’s monthly meeting in Carrick-on-Suir last Thursday.
He called on the council to erect warning signs at the bridge as this is a popular swimming area and he feared a young swimmer would get injured by broken glass.
District Engineer Denis Power promised to see what he could do and signs cautioning the public about the danger of glass in the river have since been erected at the bridge.
